In a magazine article about carbon fibre it said something along the lines of: "Making carbon fibre components requires a clean environment, an autoclave and experienced technicians. It certainly isn't suitable for amateur use". So I immediately sourced some carbon and some resin, I got acceptable parts after a couple of tries, well maybe three:)

I had no experiance with glassfibre, mould making was an interesting if sticky experience! The top right picture is a GSXR1100 mudguard as it looks when it is removed from the mould. It requires the mounting holes drilling and the edges trimming. The nice shiny finish is due to the very shiny finish on the mould it was made in.

The middle picture is the first mould I made, the first successful one that is. It is the mould the mudguard in Figure 1 was made in, The mould is made in three pieces, this makes it easy to remove the mudguard from the mould. It is shown in pieces on the mould page.

The plug/pattern that was used to make the mould was very similar to the one shown in Figure 3. This one is for a ZXR mudguard. This is a standard plastic part which, with the aid of filler and cardbaord has had extra edges added.

Figure 2.
I have been asked so many questions about making petrol tanks, so at last I have started to write a page.
I will list all the stockists I have bought materials from. Most are very helpful even when asked for a metre of fabric!
If any pictures need to be shown larger then I will link them to smaller picture, should that be link them to bigger pictures?
